Living on your own in a pandemic... Living on my Living on your own in a pandemic...

Living on my own is very liberating and makes me feel like a badass independent woman daily, but living on my own as of last month PLUS working from home in the midst of another lockdown that seems to have no end in sight is pretty daunting.

Thankfully, because I live on my own, I'm able to keep my family as my support bubble so I see them on occasion, but the majority of my time is spent on my own in my house. Waking up alone, eating breakfast alone, working alone, cooking dinner on my own, trying to relax on an evening alone... aside from the odd text from a friend and zoom calls with my students it is very isolating and I'm left with only the voice in my head to keep me company (and quite often she's not the kindest company).

I've noticed a rapid decline in the mental health of people I know recently, myself included. This lockdown seems to be really draining people. So please keep checking in on eachother. If you have a friend or family members who you think could be struggling, drop them a spontaneous call or write them a letter and start up a cute penpal exchange. And if you are struggling, take it upon yourself to reach out to a friend by calling them. Texting isn't the same as face to face interaction. πŸ“ž

SAMARITANS are there for those days when you are really struggling and don't feel like you can bring yourself to talk to a loved one. Call 116 123. Don't suffer in silence. Stay mentally safe everyone πŸ–€

Some vows to myself this week:

1️⃣ Take 20 minutes every day to do absolutely nothing (maybe throw in a little nap).

2️⃣ Wake up early and use my mornings as an opportunity to ease into my day - have a nice breakfast, drink coffee and read my book, write in my journal or do some yoga.

3️⃣ Get outside every day! (Anyone else forgetting to take your daily outdoor exercise and festering away inside your home?)

4️⃣ Spontaneously call a friend and catch up πŸ“ž

What vow will you make to yourself this week as we hit the last leg of January lockdown?
"The nights are the hardest. But then the day come "The nights are the hardest. But then the day comes and that's every bit as hard as the night. And then the night comes again..."
THE DAYS AND NIGHTS ARE HARD, I GET IT!
(If you know then you know... πŸ˜‰)

Does anyone else feel like this January lockdown is Groundhog Day? I'm finding it so much harder than the first two. Maybe because it feels like the lockdowns are never going to end...

How have you been keeping yourselves occupied during this lockdown?

I need inspiration! And before anyone suggests them, I have already watched The Serpent and Bridgerton, so I need new things to take up my time now. πŸ˜‚

PS. Yes, I'm still wearing Christmas socks 🦌

And so week 3 of lockdown begins... Has anyone els And so week 3 of lockdown begins...
Has anyone else hit a wall yet?

I've been using the extra time on my own with nowhere to go to put finishing touches around my house, including hanging these signs up in the coffee corner of my kitchen. I love this little corner and grabbing my caffeine fix is my tiny bit of joy in my day. 😍
Grief. It isn't something we talk about often; we Grief.
It isn't something we talk about often; we tend to deal with it in our own way behind closed doors. And during these isolated times, losing a loved one can be a process that you go through on your own.

At the start of this week, my sweet grandma passed away. She passed away in her own bed in her own house, listening to music she loved, with her son (my dad) by her side. I couldn't ask for a more bittersweet way for her to go, but the hurt of being unable to properly comfort my family and the idea of having a funeral for her without the celebration of her life that she deserves is heartwrenching.

I am so lucky to have friends who care about me enough to have sent me flowers, chocolates and pick-me-ups to my house during this difficult week, and they have made the sometimes long days on my own feel a little bit brighter. Those gestures of kindness and just knowing that someone is thinking of me from their isolated home is a blessing during this time, so thank you to my dear friends who have taken the time to do so.

All we can do is our best to be there for one another from afar right now, and I want to shout out particularly @lifewith.lynette @edleigh92 @ejghat and @williamcorrect for your love, support and hearts of gold this week. πŸ–€
