Last year I ticked a big thing off my travel bucket list.
Travelling solo through parts of Europe in the summer was something that I have always wanted to do. (Not necessarily travelling solo through Europe but travelling solo nonetheless.)
The experience was rewarding, fun and tough at times, (I also ended up battling through a bout of salmonella for the latter half of my trip) but I did it!
Now it’s on to planning the next adventure… Where will it be?
Here is my travel bucket list…
Hiking Machu Picchu in Peru
I would love to one day hike the great Andes up to the ruins of Machu Picchu in Peru. Being able to see the incredible hidden Inca city in person would be incredible.
I’m a bit of a history nerd, especially in regards to the mysterious, brutal, ancient civilisations, so my inner history geek would be in its element.
I bet the views are just incredible too! I’d better get training for this one…
Travel Australia and New Zealand in a camper van
Watching Beth Sandland do it made me desperate to quit everything, throw away my life savings and head out to Oz to live in a camper van. Thankfully I did not, but I’m still keen to do it one day.
Australia and New Zealand are definitely places I would love to see (and maybe never come back from), and to see them from the window of my camper van as I read a book next to a beach while cuddling a koala would be a pretty great way to do it.
Go to every city in Europe
I’m not doing too badly already on this one. Thanks to working for Disney Cruise Line I have already been to a lot of European cities. So far, throughout my life I have already been to the likes of Helsinki, Oslo, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon, Rome, Amsterdam, Budapest, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Prague, Porto and many more.
Some that I haven’t been to include Athens, Dublin and Vienna so who knows where I’ll end up this coming year…
Drive around the U.S.A in an RV
There seems to be a bit of a theme with my bucket list trips. I seem to have a penchant for vans…
There are several places I would love to go in the U.S.A like the Grand Canyon, see the beautiful valleys of Yosemite, New Orleans, San Fransisco, Nashville, Hollywood (even though I’ve heard it’s a dive), just to name a few.
I would love to hop in one of those American motorhomes with a dog in the back and drive around exploring and meeting new people along the way.
Hit Viva Las Vegas
I’ve been saying for years that I’d love to go to Vegas for my 30th birthday and that’s not too far away now… *gulp*
I’ve started my very steady savings pot for the next 3 years to save up for this one. I’d love to experience the bright lights, the debauchery and total other-worldliness of Vegas. I imagine it’s a once in a lifetime kind of trip and I think it would make a great place to celebrate my 30th!
Volunteer at an elephant sanctuary
I love elephants. I think they are fascinating, intelligent, beautiful animals and it breaks my heart that anybody would want to hurt them.
I would never want to ride an elephant or visit anywhere that was abusing elephants in any way, but I would love to visit them in a sanctuary where they are being kept safe. To see an elephant up close would be a truly special moment in my life.
So there is my short and sweet travel bucket list. It’s very unlikely that I’ll be able to tick any of these trips off my bucket list this year as I’m hoping to buy a house this year so I’m probably going to be low on the pennies… But with a bit of luck and a whole lot of saving, these are trips that I am keen to take before I ‘kick the bucket’ one day. Fingers crossed for me that I’m lucky enough to do it!
So, now to plan some budget trips for this year…
