Jealous? Me? Never!

When you’re far from home and everyone you know is moving on in their lives some way, it’s easy to feel like you’re getting left behind. Especially as a performer, as we sacrifice normal steps in life in order to pursue ‘the dream’.

My friends are buying houses, or at the very least have moved out of their parent’s house, my best friend has now moved in with her fiance, (ok, let’s talk about how EVERYBODY is getting engaged at the moment?!), and people have got stable jobs with stable incomes. People are taking steps in life to become adults, and I couldn’t feel more left behind. And this isn’t just me panicking because I’m 24 in just over a month and I thought I’d have my life sorted by that age…
So instead of feeling a tad jealous, let’s reevaluate. What things should I be jealous of myself for, right now?

I have pug faces that warm up my hands when they’re cold.

Yep, you read that correctly!

Timbits are back in my life.

The perks of living in Canada.

The most strenuous thing I have to do in my home life is schedule in when I can watch the next episode of the new Black Mirror series.

It’s worth the wait!

I’m spending winter in the Caribbean.

People may be home with their families for Christmas, but I’ll be sunbathing instead.

I’m working a job that I love.

Not ‘staying alive’ by doing something just to get by.

I have amazing people in my life.

I’m lucky enough to not have toxic people around me.

Everyone’s life paces are different, and we also want different things. Sure, people have got stable jobs, while my current job is only guaranteed for 8 months, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything else.

And my friends may be moving in with partners, finally growing up and leaving their parents, but I get to stay close to my family for a bit longer and don’t have to do my own ironing. So who’s really the winner here?

If you’re feeling like you’re finding it too easy to want what other people have at the moment, try reevaluating and reassigning the jealousy to yourself.

Sometimes you need to take a step back to gain perspective, and realise that where you’re at is exactly where you need to be, and probably want to be.

You have many reasons to be jealous of yourself, if you just take the time to look.
