Someone said on the radio the other day, ‘Romance Is Dead’. Harsh words.
I don’t think romance is dead, but I do think that people are shying away from the flowers, chocolates and candle light dinners more now. Probably due to the case that couples are doing those things regularly nowadays. There’s nothing particularly ‘special’ about these moments anymore. People want something new and an experience to remember with their partner.
So, for Valentine’s Day this year, why not do something a little more ‘out of the box’. Here is a list of some fun things going on in Leeds that will make your Valentine’s Day kick ass!
Valentine’s Day Events in Leeds…
Enjoy lunch and a show at Bibi’s Italian
On Sunday 16th February afternoon, ‘Dominic Halpin & The Honey B’s’ are performing at Bibi’s Italian restaurant in Leeds. What could be better than enjoying a bit of music and a show while you eat an exquisite meal and sip some cocktails?
This experience will be perfect for people who work Saturdays (like me) and want a romantic Sunday with their loverrrrrr (yes I did just sing the Taylor Swift song while I wrote that).
Tickets are £35 per person which includes a 2-course meal and the show. Bargain! Get your tickets here.
Valentine Roller Skate Party at The Corn Exchange
Channel your inner child and grab your skates for a Valentine’s Roller Disco at the Corn Exchange! It was so popular last year that they have revived the event. Eat and drink whilst skating around the huge Corn Exchange, while dancing to a DJ of course.
This event is perfect for both couples and friends celebrating ‘Galentine’s Day’. It is guaranteed to get you laughing, dancing, and those endorphins are sure to be rushing around your body the whole time.
Tickets for the event are £20 and it runs from 7pm until midnight, so hurry back to your carriage before it turns into a pumpkin! And don’t fret if you don’t have a pair of skates, you can hire them for just £3! Get your tickets and skate hire tickets here.
Beer & Sing: Valentine’s Ballads at Left Bank Leeds
We all pretend that we hate karaoke, but actually whenever we do it, it’s such a laugh! Beer & Sing events are back in Leeds with a romantic special. Get drunk and belt out your favourite love songs with your partner, for your partner, or with your best mates.
At the point of writing, tickets are no longer available to buy online but you may be able to pick some tickets up on the door if you’re lucky. Plus ticket sales support Left Bank Leeds which is a gorgeous arts space.
Galentine’s Day: Mean Girls
It doesn’t matter how many times you watch ‘Mean Girls’, it never gets old! Celebrate Galentine’s Day early on Thursday 13th February at the Left Bank Leeds at their special viewing of ‘Mean Girls’.
Wear pink, enjoy a themed cocktail, get photos in their Photo Booth, write on the walls of rainbows and smiles, and watch the film with your gal pals.
Tickets are £11, but cost more on the door so buy in advance! All proceeds go towards the Left Bank Leeds charity. Buy your tickets here.
Valentine’s Day Food Tour with ‘Leeds Food Tours’
If you want a dining experience with a twist then why not try out a Leeds Food Tour?
A total group size of 8 people will enjoy a guided tour around some of the best places to eat in Leeds and indulge in small plates and sharing platters along the way. You also have the option to upgrade to a drinks package which grants you a drink at each venue (so that could be 5 glasses of wine by the end of the tour).
For this exclusive food tour, a food only package is £55, for the food and drinks package it is £90. The tour is not exclusive to couples so feel free to sign up on your own or with a friend too. Book your place here.
Bongo’s Bingo – Anti-Valentine’s Special at the O2 Academy
And for those of you who do believe that ‘romance is dead’, Bongo’s Bingo is holding an Anti-Valentines themed event on Thursday 13th February.
See in Valentine’s Day with a raging hangover (because let’s be honest, that’s the main thing that comes out of Bongo’s Bingo.) Dance on tables, drink to your heart’s content and (hopefully) win prizes all whilst hating on Valentine’s Day.
For the cynics at heart, get your tickets here.
I hope that this list gives you some inspiration for Valentine’s Day this year! Now the question is, what shall I choose to do for Valentine’s Day? My boyfriend is a cynic so he would sooner choose ‘Anti-Valentine’s Bongo’s Bingo’ but I’m a bit more gushy… I might drag him along to Mean Girls!
